30 killed in serial bombings in Afghanistan
    Buffalo Breeze
    Saturday 13th March, 2010
    (IANS)

A series of bombs - presumably the work of suicide bombers - shook the Afghan city of Kandahar Saturday, according to the Afghan news agency Pajhwok.

British broadcaster BBC, citing hospital staff, said at least 30 people had been killed. The workers said they believed the bombings were the work of suicide bombers.

One of the targets may have been the city's prison, where many militants have been imprisoned. However, the prison walls were reportedly still standing.

Kandahar was one of the major strongholds of the Taliban during their rule in Afghanistan.

The attacks come after a roadside blast earlier Saturday in southern Afghanistan claimed six lives, though it remained unclear if the dead were military or civilians.
